Claudio Missagia’s solo exhibition “Still lifes”.
The “Still lifes” exhibition, while re-proposing the artist’s essential themes, introduces a different metaphysical atmosphere. In the new “compositions”, the still life becomes almost a specious element with a game with illusionistic and highly evocative effects, in which the limit between the support and the collage becomes a spatial threshold towards dark places. Claudio Missagia’s continuous experimentation has led the artist over the years to choose very different materials: from fragments of text, recurring in his early works, he moved on to tears of oriental carpets printed on paper, and then recently arrived at the use of fabrics sewn onto the canvas. Although his works are characterized by the inclusion of objects and fruit, each of these elements is far from assuming the identity of a privileged subject in the composition. Apples, citrus fruits, pomegranates, jugs, glasses, deliberately lose that primary position that saw them as protagonists in the descriptive universe of traditional “still lifes” and become volumetric-chromatic pretexts, catalysts of a light with an almost surreal echo.
Born in Valdagno (VI) in 1959, after his university studies, Missagia began to dedicate himself completely to painting. At the end of the 1980s he began his exhibition activity with exhibitions in Italy, France, England, Germany and the United States. The artist has also participated in the most important national and international art fairs: Arte Fiera Bologna, Arte Fiera Padova, Miami Art Fair, Art Fair Innsbruck, Holland Art Fair. On the occasion of the exhibition, recent works published in a catalog published by the Biale Cerruti Art Gallery will be presented.
